about the book
In the canon, Mr Darcy hands Elizabeth a letter at Rosings and they do not meet again for months. In *The Letter Returned*, a footman’s mistake brings the letter back to Pemberley unopened — and Mr Darcy, against every instinct, sends it again.
Elizabeth Bennet receives a second letter at Longbourn the morning of her sister’s wedding. She reads it in the orchard. She does not reply for nine days. When she does, she does not address the envelope to Mr Darcy. She addresses it to *Fitzwilliam*.
“A second letter. A different morning. The same two hearts, in better weather.”
